Colourful is the word, short shorts are hot. Store your Bermuda and board shorts, ladies. Hems are going up this season (as in, they're getting shorter), says Allison Berlin, personal stylist and founder of Style Made Simple. "While this look isn't for all body types, short shorts are more chic for a hot day than a micro-mini skirt," she points out. "Wear with a flowing top and flats to balance out the proportion." However, if you do not like to wear short shorts, cropped pants or dresses are alternatives for you. They are still in, and are able to keep you chic and cool this summer.
Although we're seeing more form-fitting tops and dresses this summer, don’t throw away your tunics yet! Celebrity style expert Finola Hughes says they're the go-to outfit for a day at the beach. "A bright linen tunic will never steer you wrong, whether it's being casually thrown over a swimsuit or working double-time as a top," explains the Style Network How Do I Look? host. To adhere to the new form-flattering rule, cinch it with a thick belt whenever possible. If you want to try a tunic, remember this:
Your tunic should hit you mid-thigh. Anything longer will create a dumpy look.
Say goodbye to your flip flops. Wearing your old, beat-down flip-flops on the beach is no longer in trend. Instead, opt for wedge sandals or gladiators with your swimsuit. Besides, it goes well with your dresses too!
"Spring's favorite footwear still has a place this summer, so get a lot of use out of them while you can," says Carolina Bermudez, fashionista and radio personality for Elvis Duran and the Morning Zoo on Z100. Carolina, who reports on the latest trends on her Rage Page, suggests to sport Grecian-inspired looks and gladiator sandals with long, flowy skirts and dresses. "But word to the wise: Petite women should opt for a flat pair that doesn't cut around the ankle because that will only make your legs look shorter," she says.
Now you know what's in and out this summer, you should have a better idea what to put in your wardrobe. Personally, I have already bought a few pairs of gladiator sandals to match my outfits. And last Sunday, I was tempted to buy some more when I went shopping with my friends at Far East, but fortunately, I withheld the urge to splurge and spent my money on an extravagant dinner instead. :D
